Joseph Toney

Joseph began his career as a Systems Administrator before transitioning into project management—a shift that ultimately led him to CVPartners. During his tenure there, he advanced to Managing Director, overseeing retained and contingent services across multiple practices. Following CVPartners’ acquisition by Addison Group, Joseph played a key role in establishing Arete Partners as one of its founding leaders within the Technology division.

In 2017, Joseph joined DeWinter to start the retained search team. Today, he serves as Managing Director of  DeWinter Partners, which provides retained executive searches and foundational hires for the venture and private equity ecosystem. DeWinter Partners specializes in the G&A hiring space, and Joseph's primary focus is the CIO and CISO organization.

Joseph has been a resident of the Bay Area for over 25 years. He was fortunate to get a very early start in retained recruitment during the major tech emergence of Silicon Valley, which acted as a formal education in learning what is required to successfully partner with growth companies. During this time he recruited and placed early talent at some of top tech organizations still in existence today.

He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned Academic All-American honors in Track and Field. Outside of work, Joseph enjoys running, playing soccer, and mountaineering. In his free time he coaches Track and Field at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California.
